Eye Tutorial - Drawing, Painting, Swatches by ThreshTheSky Eye Tutorial - Drawing, Painting, Swatches by ThreshTheSky
Please read:

• This is not the only way and definitely not the best way to paint eyes. It's just how I happen to do it. Hopefully a few people will find it useful.

• When I began making this a long time ago, it was my intention to do one tutorial that covered the entire eye. However, I quickly figured out that that would be too much information for one sheet. Thus this one only covers the iris and pupil, not the sclera (whites of the eyes) or the eyelids/surrounding skin. If enough interest is expressed, I'll make a Part 2 that covers the rest of the eye.

• Although the painting section referneces Photoshop tools (I use PS CS6), I categorized this under "Other" since the Anatomy & Structure section can apply to drawing/painting in any medium (including traditional) and the swatches can be used in any digital program.

•This tutorial uses a fair amount biology/anatomy as well as physics to explain things. This tutorial could have been ten times as long in order to explain everything completely but is instead my attempt at concise and simple. I'm glad to answer any questions or clarify things if necessary. Just ask.

• If you notice any typos, please let me know so that I can be embarrassed fix it.

If you find this helpful or plan to use it in the future (especially the swatches), please add this to your favorites. Leaving a link in the comments to whatever you make with it so I can admire what you came up with would also be awesome. :)

It was so easy to follow! I used it here: fav.me/d7l1p5j Can't really see the eyes all that fabulously there, I'm afraid, but I assure you that it has made a difference. A million thanks!

I'm so glad to hear that! I do my best to make my tutorials clear and easy to follow. That, and I hope that by making them people will see that it's all just technique and practice. :D

My computer isn't very cooperative internet-wise, and I often an on a server that block DeviantArt, so would it be an issue for you to make this tutorial downloadable, or possibly email it to me?

What drawing program do you recommend?
I don't think it will work with Fire Alpaca. (is the program I use)

I don't really have anything to recommend since I'm only familiar with Photoshop and thus don't know any better. As mentioned in the description, I use PS CS6. Sorry I don't have anything more specific to recommend. I am, however, an ardent believer in the idea that the program is a tiny fraction as important as the skill and practice ethic of the artist. :)
