Painting of a Friend I: Fireflies by ThreshTheSky Painting of a Friend I: Fireflies by ThreshTheSky
Digital painting of my cat, Sarah. Sometimes you can see lightning bugs out the window of my house. Her expression while watching them is something that has always stuck with me.

This was truly a labor of love. I don't think I've ever spent this long on a digital painting and doubt I will again for a long time.

A tutorial on how I paint fur is posted here.

That's one of the nicest comments I've gotten in a while. Thank you so much. My cats really do mean the world to me. :aww:

The way you painted her eyes is absolutely striking. I've always loved a cat's eyes, but most paintings don't really give off the same feel as sharing a look with one of our furry little friends. The realism here really is something poignant in my opinion. She is a very beautiful cat, my friend, and this by all means does her justice. :) The whiskers are almost tangible! I know that minor details like that can be rather difficult, so well done. ^^ And the fireflies are so lovely and whimsical. :)

Thanks! I'm still proud of this but have to admit that I'm of two minds about this piece. At the time I made it, it was the absolute best I could do but when I look at it now, there's a lot that that bothers me since I feel I could do better now.

Thanks a lot for all your kind and insightful comments. The watch is also much appreciated. :D

That's a good sign though. Being able to look back and find 'issues' is what shows that you've improved! ^^ And of course my dear, you are very welcome. :)

You are an inspiration, really. I love drawing cats but they lack the realism you are so good at. I'm going to try out some of your tutorials :)

This would be the closest I've got to a semi-realistic digital picture:

And I will thankyou! When I get around to trying it out I'd love your advice to improve :)

Also, may I ask how long something of this kind of detail takes to complete?
