Update 5/7/13

Winners have been selected! The winner of the raffle drawing via random number generator is Michelle-JP. (A screencap of the results is posted here.) The winner I selected for her unique tutorial ideas and suggestions for ways to push myself is Zephyr-Aryn. Congratulations to you both! You two can each send me a note with your fan art or animal art request when you know what you'd like.

A huge thank you to everyone who responded. Your feedback, both positive and negative, is much appreciated and will be put to good use. :)

----------------------------[end update]

Today marks the beginning of my second year on deviantArt. I'd like to take the opportunity to ask my watchers their opinion on some things, mostly in regard to my current and future actions on dA. (Reading to the bottom is worth your while. There's prizes in them thar hills...)

1) What kind of art content would you like to see more of from me?
I know for a fact that a lot of my watchers are only interested in my fan art paintings. (Which is completely fine. I'm not complaining.) Is fan art what most of you are interested in seeing more of, and if so, what fandoms are you most interested in seeing material from? Anyone interested in things that are more obscure or unusual for me like traditional work or line art? How about more animal paintings? Something entirely different?

2) What kind of prize-winning opportunities would you be most interested in participating in: raffles with randomly-selected winners or art contests that require skill?
I tend to favor raffles because I like the idea of art appreciators and artists being able to win instead of just artists. I also used to assume that people are busy and prefer contests that don't require as much of a time commitment in order to produce an entry. But my recent photography contest had more than double the entries that I've ever gotten for a raffle despite the fact that the prizes weren't as big as many of the raffles I've hosted. So perhaps you guys prefer contests that involve skill?

3) For raffles, do you prefer the "leave a comment" ones or the kind where you just add the journal to your favorites?
The "just fave it" kind are faster, less work for people to enter, and don't require me to respond with number assignments. But I also know that a lot of people view that kind of raffle as a cheap attempt to show up in the journal portal, especially when the prize is only a handful of points. What's your opinion on this issue?

4) For skill-based contests, what kind of challenges or entry prompts would most make you want to enter?
Photography seemed like a good idea for my last contest since it would enable a wider variety and greater quantity of people to enter. (And a lot of people did.) Did you like this? Any ideas for future contests, whether themes or mediums/art categories?

5) Are there any tutorials or other resources you're interested in seeing from me?
The response to the fur tutorial I made was relatively small but also positive. The reference sheet for humans hands I made a long time ago also gets relatively few but regular favorites. In all honesty, these kind of things are a lot of work and not much fun to make. But I'm happy to share what little I have figured out if other people actually find it useful. Are there any specific techniques or methods that you're curious about?

I'd really like to get some feedback on this. So to bribe encourage you to contribute, anyone who leaves a comment with their answers to some or all of the above questions will be entered to win a request from me. There will be two winners. One will be chosen using a random number generator. (The more you answer, the higher the probability of winning. The number of questions you answer (maximum of 5) will be the number of raffle ticket numbers you get.) The other winner will be chosen by me based on how helpful your responses are. Each of the two winners will get a free request from me for either a character for a fan art painting or a species for an animal painting. Comments will remain open for entries for at least a week (but probably longer because I get lazy and forget to close them down).

Of course, you can also give me feedback out of the goodness of your heart. If you'd like to leave a comment but don't want to be assigned any raffle numbers or considered for a prize, just say so in your comment. Any other thoughts/ideas not explicitly brought up in a question are obviously welcome as well.

deviantArt is such a big part of my spare time now that I can't really imagine life without it. Thank you to my friends, watchers, and everyone who's given comments or faves. You guys are awesome. :)

1) 1a. What kind of art content would you like to see more of from me? I like all of your artwork. Your pet portraits capture that unconditional love that animals give us, and it's always a delight seeing your fan art, because you bring to life what made us fall in love with these characters in the first place, and fall in love with them all over again. The most recent painting in your gallery that has spoken to me, in this regard, is your Les Miserables family portrait. I used to be a huge Les Mis fan, and that picture you did has had me running out to watch the new movie and listen to the Broadway songs again.

1b. Is fan art what most of you are interested in seeing more of, and if so, what fandoms are you most interested in seeing material from? I would like to see you do video game, Disney and anime fan art. I'd love to see how characters like Ariel the Little Mermaid, Simba and Princess Peach would look in your style.

1c. Anyone interested in things that are more obscure or unusual for me like traditional work or line art? How about more animal paintings? Something entirely different? I am! More traditional stuff would be great. I've really enjoyed your charcoals and inks. What about woodcarving? Do you do watercolours or sculpting? Landscapes could be interesting, more nature themed art (doesn't have to be pets, could be like the flowers in the vase picture you did). Maybe sci-fi or fantasyish art (realistic space aliens maybe?).

2) What kind of prize-winning opportunities would you be most interested in participating in: raffles with randomly-selected winners or art contests that require skill? I prefer art contests rather than raffles. Raffles are fun, cause there's that cool surprise element, but I really get excited seeing peoples' creativity and being inspired to be creative myself! To have a nice balance, maybe do every other... raffle, art contest, raffle...?

3) For raffles, do you prefer the "leave a comment" ones or the kind where you just add the journal to your favorites?
I prefer the "leave a comment" contests, because I enjoy reading peoples' answers and getting new ideas from them. "Just add the journal to your favorites" feels to me like hitting the "like" button on Facebook; doesn't really tell you what people are thinking. Also being a very social person, I love how "leave a comment" contests get everyone participating.

4) 4a. For skill-based contests, what kind of challenges or entry prompts would most make you want to enter? Photography, guessing game/scavenger hunt, writing, 3d art, character design.

4b. Photography seemed like a good idea for my last contest since it would enable a wider variety and greater quantity of people to enter. (And a lot of people did.) Did you like this? Any ideas for future contests, whether themes or mediums/art categories?
I liked the photography contest. For future contests maybe...
1. writing or poetry (like write a poem inspired by a piece of artwork). could do songwriting too.
2. character design
3. short comic strips
4. vector art
5. icon design (design an icon or avatar based on prompt)
6. design a tutorial
7. 3d art, like origami (submit 3d artworks based on/inspired by prompt)
8. more photography
9. guessing games, scavenger hunts

5) Are there any tutorials or other resources you're interested in seeing from me? I would love to see you do tutorials on:
1. realistic clothing (fabrics and folds)
2. animals (poses/proportions/feathers/expressions)
3. surfaces and textures (metals like in your Witch King of Angmar drawing)
4. backgrounds
5. non-digital art techniques (like ink, charcoal, woodworking)
6. a guide to creating a tutorial
7. eyes
